Locktober

Why thousands of men lock up for all of October, and hand the key to their partner

It began on kink forums about a decade ago. Today “Locktober” has its own subreddit, its own hashtag and one simple premise: one device, one keyholder, 31 days.

Cagio™: a lightweight cage with a lock, a key and a small wireless remote.

Lock + October

The name says most of it. For one month, the person taking part wears a chastity cage, a small device that stops erections, and in most versions of the game someone else holds the key. In the community, that person is called the keyholder.

Locktober grew out of kink message boards in the mid-2010s and spread through Tumblr and FetLife before Reddit gave it a forum of its own in 2019. Interest in the term has climbed almost every year since 2016.

The hashtag has since escaped its niche. Plenty of people now tag sober months and gym streaks with #Locktober without knowing where it came from.

It’s not really about the cage

For most couples, the device is the least interesting part. The appeal is what it changes between two people.

Handing over control

Giving a partner the key means not having to lead, initiate or “perform” for a while. For some men, that is the whole point.

Anticipation

Waiting builds tension. After days of denial, small moments, a message or a touch, start to feel big.

A new script

With the usual routine off the table, there is room for everything else: touch, talk, teasing, and a lot of trust.

Before you lock anything

The part most Locktober posts skip. Read it before day one.

Start with hours, not a month. Wear it for an hour or two while you are together, and don’t sleep in it until you know the fit. A full month is a big jump for a first-timer.

Fit comes first. Pick the ring that is snug without pinching. If you notice swelling, numbness, colour change or pain, take it off straight away.

Keep a spare key within reach. Your partner holds the key, that is the game. A spare key in a known place is the safety net.

Keep it clean. Wash the device and your skin every day and let both dry. Switch the e-stim off while cleaning.

Agree on rules and a safe word. Talk limits through before you start. Either of you can call it off at any time.

E-stim isn’t for everyone. Never use it if you have a pacemaker, another implanted electronic device or a heart condition, and never use it in water.

General information, not medical advice. If you have a health condition, ask a doctor before trying chastity play.

Choose your setup

Classic key, or the key plus a remote?

Every Locktober needs a lock and a keyholder. Beyond that, it comes down to how you want to play: keep it simple with a classic cage, or let your partner tease from across the room with Cagio™. Neither needs an app or an account.

Both lock with a real key your partner holds. Not sure? The classic is the simplest start; Cagio™ adds the remote.

A first Locktober, step by step

October is already underway, but nothing says your 31 days have to start on the 1st. A gentle way to build up:

Week 1

Fitting week

An hour or two at a time, together. Check the size (or, with Cagio™, try all three rings) until the fit feels right.

Week 2

Longer stretches

Part of the day while you are both at home. The keyholder holds the key; the spare stays within reach.

Week 3

Add a game

With Cagio™, start the e-stim on the lowest level and agree on a signal for “more” and one for “stop”. With the classic, let the keyholder set small tasks that earn an unlock.

Week 4

Your rules

Longer wear only if the fit is proven and you both want it. Keep taking it off daily to clean and check your skin.

Questions people ask

Classic or Cagio™?

Both lock with a real key your partner holds. Choose the classic for simple key-holding with nothing to charge. Choose Cagio™ if you also want the wireless remote and its mild e-stim, and only if none of the e-stim warnings below apply to you.

Who holds the key?

Usually the partner, the keyholder. Agree together what earns an unlock, and keep a spare key somewhere you can reach it in an emergency.

Which size do I need?

The classic comes in S, M and L, chosen at checkout. Cagio™ comes with three snap rings, so you can adjust the fit. Snug is good; pinching, numbness or swelling means take it off.

Is the e-stim safe for everyone?

No. Don’t use it if you have a pacemaker, another implanted electronic device or a heart condition, and never use it in water. The lock works the same with the e-stim switched off.

How is it shipped?

Orders are processed within 2 business days (up to 5 during sales) and standard delivery takes 5–15 business days, with tracking. You can add discreet packaging at checkout. Any customs fees are paid by the buyer.

Can I return it?

Returns follow our refund policy. Customers in the EU can also cancel within 14 days.

Your 31 days start when you say so

One cage, one key, and a partner you trust. Add the remote if you want more.
